Business Flyer costs nothing to join, has no minimum spend and no ongoing fees. If anyone in your business flies Virgin Australia for work, there's very little reason not to be in it.

Here's how it works, what each tier gets you and how to use the points.

What is Business Flyer?

Business Flyer is Virgin Australia's rewards program for small and medium businesses. Your business earns Velocity Points on eligible Virgin Australia flights your team takes, while each traveller still earns their own Velocity Points and status credits.

Who can join

You need an active ABN or ACN and an Australian business address, and your business must spend up to $500,000 a year on domestic flights. Travel agents and resellers can't join. Sign-up is free and online.

How your business earns

TierAnnual Virgin flight spendVelocity Points to the business
Tier 1Up to $9,9991 per $1
Tier 2$10,000 to $49,9991.5 per $1
Tier 3$50,000 and over2 per $1

Correct as of September 2026. Capped at 1 million points in a rolling 12 months.

To earn, book through the Business Flyer portal, or add your business details to the booking. Partner flights generally need to be booked as Virgin Australia codeshares to earn.

The business can also earn with more than 25 partner brands, including business payment platforms and car hire.

What each tier gets you

  • All members: up to 6% off Virgin Australia Flex and business class fares, and a discounted lounge membership at $379 a year.
  • New members: spend $2,000 on Virgin flights in your first three months and two people get three months of Velocity Gold, called Pilot Gold.
  • Tier 2: one 12-month Velocity Gold membership, plus a choice of 20,000 bonus points or five lounge passes.
  • Tier 3: two 12-month Velocity Gold memberships, plus a choice of 50,000 bonus points, ten lounge passes or two business class upgrades.

Pilot Gold is a trial. To keep Gold beyond it, the person needs to earn enough status credits during the three months. Frequent flyer status explained covers how status works.

How to use the points

The business can book flights or upgrades directly, or transfer points to team members' Velocity accounts. Transfers start at 100 points and the person must be employed or contracted by the business.

Moving points to a personal Velocity account usually gives the best value, because that's where you can book Virgin and partner reward seats at a fixed points price. Using points to pay for a cash fare through Business Flyer is simple but tends to be poor value.

Why it's free

A small business with no travel contract can switch airlines on every trip. Free membership removes any reason not to join, and Pilot Gold gives the people who book the travel a taste of status, which is a strong reason to keep booking Virgin.

What I'd do this week

  1. Join online. It takes minutes.
  2. Book your next trips through the portal so they count.
  3. If you'll spend $2,000 in the first three months, nominate two people for Pilot Gold.
  4. Decide whether the business keeps the points or passes them to staff.
