David Jones Rewards: how to get started

David Jones Rewards lets you choose: store points or Qantas Points. Here's how each works and how to decide which to earn.

At David Jones, you get to choose what you earn: 3 David Jones Rewards points per dollar, or 1 Qantas Point. Most people never stop to work out which is better. It takes about a minute.

What is David Jones Rewards?

David Jones Rewards is the department store's free loyalty program, run in partnership with Qantas. You earn on purchases in store and online, and manage everything in the David Jones app.

Qantas Points or David Jones points?

OptionEarn per $1Value
David Jones Rewards points31,500 points = $10 reward, so about 2% back
Qantas Points1Depends on how you use them

If you use Qantas Points on Classic reward flights at 2 cents or more each, Qantas Points give you about 2% back too, and more in business class. If you'd use Qantas Points on gift cards at around half a cent, David Jones points are clearly better.

The rule of thumb: frequent flyers chasing a trip should pick Qantas. Everyone else should pick David Jones points.

Tiers and extras

There are three tiers, Bronze, Silver and Gold, unlocked by yearly spend. Members get a birthday reward, bonus points events and early access to sales. David Jones credit cardholders earn double the points they've chosen when paying with their card.

You can also spend Qantas Points at David Jones in store and online.

Why David Jones lets you choose

Some shoppers care about store rewards, others about flights. Offering a choice lets one program appeal to both, while David Jones decides the cost of each option. For Qantas, it adds a premium retail partner where around half its members already shop.

What I'd do

  1. Join in the app.
  2. Choose Qantas if you're saving for a flight, otherwise David Jones points.
  3. Watch for bonus points events before big purchases.
