Flybuys: how to get started and earn Velocity Points

Flybuys is the Velocity equivalent of Everyday Rewards. Here's how to link it, whether to take Velocity Points or vouchers, and how it earns status credits.

Velocity members who shop at Coles can earn status credits on their groceries. Up to 120 a year, which is nearly halfway to Velocity Silver, without leaving the ground.

That's the standout feature of Flybuys for Velocity members. Here's how the program works and how to set it up.

What is Flybuys?

Flybuys is the loyalty program for Coles, Kmart, Target, Officeworks, Liquorland and a range of partners. It's free to join, and you can use a physical card or the app.

Where you earn

You earn about 1 Flybuys point per dollar at most partners, including:

  • Coles supermarkets and Coles Online
  • Kmart and Target
  • Officeworks
  • Liquorland and First Choice Liquor

The app also offers personalised bonus offers. Activate them before you shop.

Velocity Points or a voucher?

OptionWhat you getValue per Flybuys point
Velocity Points1,000 Velocity Points for every 2,000 Flybuys pointsDepends how you use them; often around 1 cent on good flight rewards
Coles voucher$10 for every 2,000 Flybuys points0.5 cents

Correct as of October 2026.

If you'll use Velocity Points on reward flights, Velocity usually wins. If you'd use them on gift cards or merchandise, take the voucher. What are your points worth? shows how to work it out.

Status credits from shopping

Link your Velocity membership to Flybuys and you earn 1 Velocity status credit for every $100 you spend at Coles, Coles Online and Liquorland. The cap is 10 a month, or 120 a year.

Velocity Silver needs 250 status credits, so 120 from groceries is a real head start. Frequent flyer status explained covers the tiers.

  1. Log in to your Flybuys account.
  2. Link your Velocity membership.
  3. Choose Velocity Points as your reward option.

Only one Velocity account can be linked per Flybuys household. Link the person who'll benefit most from the status credits.

Why Coles pays in status credits

Status credits cost an airline very little to give away, because most members never reach the next tier from groceries alone. But for the ones who are close, they're a powerful reason to choose Coles over Woolworths every week. That's why Qantas copied the idea for its 8 December changes.

What I'd do this week

  1. Join Flybuys, or find your card.
  2. Link Velocity and set your reward preference.
  3. Activate offers in the app before shopping.
  4. Track your status credits in the Velocity app.
